Tests

There are so many tests you can have in hospital that it can seem endless!

Hurting your head can sometimes cause lots of little changes in your body. In order for the doctors to keep track of what is going on inside, they do lots of tests. You can have some tests when you are in hospital but others you might have to come back for when you are starting to adjust.

Here are some of the tests you can have but there are many many more. Ask your doctor what tests you can expect to have and what they all mean!

  • EEG – This looks at the electrical signals in the brain. You might have heard people calling them ‘brain waves’. This tests checks to see if you are epileptic.
  • ECG – This looks at how your heart is beating.
  • X-ray – These look at broken bones and can see what is going on with some of your internal squishy bits like your lungs.
  • MRI and CT Scans – These are clever scans that take pictures inside the body and can tell the doctors all sorts of interesting things.
  • Blood Tests – No-one likes having a blood test but they are really useful in helping the doctors to decide what you need help with inside the body.
  • Ultrasound Scans – This is a clever way of looking to see what is going on inside the body. Pregnant ladies have ultrasound scans to see how the baby is developing inside. Ultrasound scans can also look at what the squishy parts inside the body are doing and they can also look at how the blood flows around the body.
