So many children and teenagers are very scared about operating theatres. It seems like a real nightmare when you are told you need to have an operation and everyone, even your parents, worry about it!

The thing to remember is this, operations happen every day to lots of different people and the surgeons and theatre nurses who do the operations are very clever and very good at doing them. They might look like they are wearing strange pyjamas, but they are experts at what they do.

They will take good care of you and will make sure that they do the operation as quickly and safely as possible.

Try not to worry about it too much, you will have some medicine so you will be unconscious when you have the operation. There is a special doctor there called a anaesthetist who will make sure you are asleep the whole time.

You won’t remember much about it. You might just remember the anaesthetist giving you the medicine but the next thing you will remember is waking up and seeing your parents.
