Going to hospital

After hurting your head or falling very ill, the first thing that would have happened was someone calling an ambulance. Some people who have hurt their head can remember the ambulance coming, although most of the time, you can’t remember this happening because you were unconscious.

There are several ways you can go to hospital. Most people get taken to hospital in an ambulance. If you are very sick, or far away from a specialist hospital that looks after head injuries, you might been taken to hospital by a helicopter called an air-ambulance.

When the ambulance arrived, special people called Paramedics and Ambulance Technicians would have taken care of you. Their job is to pick you up, keep you safe, and take you to hospital as quickly as possible.

You see ambulances around all the time. The blue flashing lights and the siren is used to tell other cars to move out of the way, so that the ambulance can get you to hospital as quickly as possible.
