Going for a scan

A scan is like taking a very clever photograph of inside the body or brain. There are a few different scans you can have.

Whilst you were in hospital, you would have had many scans in order for the doctors and nurses to understand what was going on inside your head.

The two main types of scan are:

The chances are, you won’t remember having these scans when you were very sick.

The radiographer is the person who takes the pictures using the scanner. The pictures are printed off so that the doctors and radiographers can see exactly what is happening inside the brain. The doctors can then decide what to do next.

Once you have gone home, it is likely that you will have check-up scans in the future so the doctors can keep a close eye on how the brain is recovering after you have left hospital.

Scans do not hurt though! There is nothing to worry about!
